Recreation Use in the BWCA
There were two main recreational uses that were controversial in the BWCA. Snowmobiles and motorboats caused great disruption because of the noise they create. The 1978 Act banned snowmobiling completely and banned a majority of motorboat use in the BWCA. When snowmobiling and motorboats were banned, canoeing, skiing, and camping became more popular in the BWCA.
